Full Proposal

BRIEF: Music Video

For my coursework, I am going to make a music video. The main features will be audio sync (music), editing and rollerblading + fingerboarding and possibly some animation. This video will be targeted at all ages. I am trying to make this video more realistic with the editing and I will try to create a story line. There will be no representations as I believe that people watch music videos to see something with the song, rather that understand the deep meaning about racism etc. I am doing a music video because I make a lot of videos in my free time, which revolves around editing and syncing to music so this is what I would naturally pick. In this video, I am trying to make the viewer feel that they don’t have to analyse it in depth for no reason and for them just to enjoy the video for what it is. As an example, there will be no racism or sexism etc. In the music video, I will be using music made by Audiosyncratic, an original artist who makes very good music. On further research, I have realised that a music video does not have to have a story to make it good, which makes everything easier for me. A music video can have a story, which will help but it would be much easier to try and make a very simple story. Also, the genre will be more upbeat with parts that are the opposite. The genre will then be slightly adventure with sport mixed in. To make this video successful, I have realised that I need to make the content of the video some sort of skill (rollerblading, video games etc) and I need to make the editing very good. This research proved very useful as now I can see what makes a successful music video.

My concept:

The style of the video will be intended o be very “chilled” or calm. I want to do this as I want to make the video very easy to watch. As I have said before, the content of the video will be rollerblading and possibly mixed with fingerboarding. Also, I will attempt to include some sort of animation (video games etc.). I will be aiming this video all ages but I will concentrate on the under 25’s. Now because I want my video to be chilled, I don’t think I will be including any complex understanding of racism etc. This video will be produced in parts around London and if (per chance) we go to somewhere else while I am in the stages of filming I will try my best to film there. I will be producing all of the video, but of course I will be using music made by my brother, Audiosyncratic who makes all types of music. This video has been influenced by a couple of video I have seen on the internet, T.V and other resources but mainly, I have thought of this idea myself.

Timetable:

First Week: Get the storyboard done

Second Week - Third: Start filming

Rest of the weeks/days: Editing and possibly more filming

Initial proposal:

• State clearly the brief you wish to complete and who is in the group
Im doing the Music video breif and i'm by myself

• Explain why you have selected this brief
I love editing and i love to make montages and stuff so it's my kind of brief. I do like to do picture editing (making backgrounds for my youtube channel) but I much prefer doing video editing.

• Explain what each of the elements of your selected brief will involve
The music portion will contain... music (explained below). I will try and make the video about 2 minutes. Setting this as a goal will create space for extra parts if I want to add in moar. The audio will be by Christian Campbell (Audiosyncratic). Im by myself so i have to do everything which will be easy as I probably wont use a camera. As I have said, I amd going to focus on gameplay montages (In short, Music videos that include mainly gameplay) and if I do use a camera, I will be filming fingerboarding or something like that. I wont be filming something in the city with lights, actors etc. For a one man army, too much work.

• Discuss your initial thoughts about the genre/content/style – what you plan to make?
There is not really going to be a genre but the music will be a mix between Dance and sort of chill music. Its my brothers music so im not sure. Content is going to POSSIBLY be either my "talents" (rolelrblading etc) or video game editing in the form of a montage. I want to try and really focus on the editing and not the story as story is only useful when you want to give your video a point, which I dont. I want to make mine fun and entertaining. Colourful etc.

• Identify (name) your key texts (minm. 3) to be studied for research analysis
Music sync, effects, programmes. the three videos that I will be analysing are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx0bcFglwng (fingerboarding aspect), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTbVY4z_x7A (Editing, music sync) and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK0wz89lZ6I (Live action, story)

• Identify any areas for technical research/experimentation
I have been experimenting with editing and syncing for a very long time so I only have to experiment with what kind of video it is going to be. Over the holidays, I was working on one video which was a kind of experiment but then again, I made it for fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP3rCRPz2w4

Rather wouldnt do a timetable. I work much better if I do things whenever I want to. Jobs get done faster and more efficiently. If I have a timetable, I feel like I have to rush a certain element to get on with the rest. if I really have to, I will make a timetable.
